Welcome to St. James

After more than 150 years in the Kearney community, St. James parish has a rich history as a community of Catholic worship and an established legacy of service to the people of the Kearney area.

St. James parish was established in the 1860s to be a sign of the presence of the Kingdom of God, to spread the Good News of the Gospel and to minister and serve others. As Catholics we believe in Jesus' dying and rising and in our call to celebrate the Sacraments and proclaim the Gospel. Right now, we are in the midst of an exciting time in the development of our parish as we have vacated our church structure for a year-long renovation project. This time of sacrifice and growth, we pray, will ultimately strengthen our community and our faith as we return to a renewed place to gather and worship.

We welcome our Catholic brothers and sisters, our visitors from other denominations, people new to Kearney or just stopping through, to pray and celebrate the Sacraments with us. Join us at our various gathering points in Kearney. You will be welcomed and embraced as we are called to celebrate, with you, and ask you to join us in being a sign of the presence of God.

TODAY IS WORLD MISSION SUNDAY. We celebrate this day by remembering the revitalizing mission at the heart of our Christian faith – to bring the Gospel to all! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith    ensures the work and service of the Mission Church, as it supports priests, religious and lay leaders who offer the Lord’s mercy and concrete help to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Thank you for your generosity.

Last weekend’s special collection for 2018 Disasters will support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services, the official relief agencies of the U.S. Catholic Church. The United States Catholic Bishops and the Knights of Columbus are continuing to take donations for the humanitarian, long-term recovery, and Church needs arising from recent storms. If you still wish to contribute, you can designate 2018 Disasters on a donation through the parish or send it to one of the above listed charities.

I am Joseph your brother, Fr. Joseph Hannappel
