Diaconate Formation

The Office of the Permanent Diaconate exists for the formation of candidates to be ordained as deacons in the Church as well as to provide ongoing formation for the men ordained. The goal of the program of formation is discipleship. Jesus commands us “love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (Jn 13:34-35). The deacon  candidates will learn how to imitate that love as men ordered to Christ the servant.

We currently have 6 men who are candidates in the deacon formation program: Mark Bowman, St. James’ in Kearney; Ronald Glaser, St. Michael’s in Spalding; Matthew Lonnemann, St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island; Brad Moorhous, St. Patrick’s in North Platte; Paul Nordhues, St. Theresa’s in Ericson; and Leo Trautman, Christ the King in Gering. The cost of formation per man is $5,000 per year. Thank you for supporting this formation program! There are already 16 men ordained as deacons and serving that office in various parishes around the diocese.
