Diocesan Appeal

Diocesan Appeal

As written in Peter 4:10 "As each one has Received a gift, use it to serve one another as good Stewards of God's varied Grace".

The week of October 20, 2019, all St.James parishioners received Diocesan Appeal materials in the mail.  This year's theme is "Receive". Please mail your pledge card back directly to the diocese and make checks payable to the Diocesan Appeal. If you don't receive something in the mail from  the Diocese of Grand Island, please call the office and we will update our parish list with the diocesan office.

Your support of this year’s Diocesan Appeal will help the following ministries in many ways:

  • Seminary Formation
  • Youth & Young Adult/Higher Ground
  • Hispanic Ministry
  • International Priest Program
  • Newman Centers-UNK & Chadron State College
  • Permanent Diaconate
  •  Retired Priest Medical Insurance
  • West Nebraska Register
  • Faith Formation & Evangelization

In the academic year 2019/2020, the diocese has: seven young men in priestly formation – Deacon Dan Gilbert (Scottsbluff), Dillon Spies (Grand Island), Chas Canfield (Grand Island), John Rohweder (Grand Island), Noah Huddleston (Kearney), Liam Murphy (Kearney), and Adam Bauer (St. Paul). Deacon Dan Gilbert will be ordained to priesthood on June 5, 2020 in Grand Island.

We outsource the formation of our men to various seminaries in the region. The cost of this for each man in formation is $40,000 per year. Thank you for your generosity in contributing to the formation of our men! We also have two young women in formation for religious life from our diocese: Maria Glaser with the Missionaries of
Charity and Mary Irvine with the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. By supporting the Diocesan Appeal with your financial gift or simply by offering up a prayer that we can find the necessary resources to build up our greater church in our diocese and the church. Your pledge card and envelope can be mailed to the diocese or placed in the offertory. What we receive in the offertory will be sent to the diocese each week to be processed.

Please make checks payable to the Diocesan Appeal. Giving statements related to the Diocesan Appeal will be generated from the Stewardship & Development office.

Mission Statement

St. James parish is established to be a sign of the presence of the Kingdom of God, to spread the Good News of the Gospel and to minister and serve others. As Catholics we believe in Jesus' dying and rising and in our call to celebrate the Sacraments and proclaim the Gospel.
