                           Fishing With St. James

As we go to the mountain of the Transfiguration every second Sunday of Lent, I want to encourage you to plan your “Holy Week” activities around our parish liturgies of the Triduum. This high point, the mountain of our Lenten journey, will be celebrated April 13-15. These “Three Days of the Pasch” are observed as an annual retreat in all Catholic parishes around the world.

I especially invite you to commit to join our candidates and catechumens at the Easter Vigil on April 15 at 8:00 p.m. This past Saturday they joined others from our diocese for the Rite of Election. At the Easter Vigil, these people will become full members of our local church: Catechumens are Cassie Wasmund, Cole Lewandowski, Alex Quintana, Sean Arnold, and Tina Folck. Candidates are Luke Ackerman, Amber Collin, Carson Watt, Kelly Cacaro and Sam Mortensen.

Below are some inspiring words from St. Augustine speaking to the newly baptized: “My brothers and sisters who are newly baptized, we now come to the moment you have been waiting for. We too have hungered to have you share with us at this table. What we share here is the body and blood of Christ. It guides us and centers us. It is the reason we live. ‘Be what you see, and receive what you are.’ Behold, the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. . . .”

I AM Joseph your brother. Fr. Joe Hannappel
