                    Fishing in “Ordinary Time”

We are now moving back into the liturgical season called
"Ordinary Time." The name is not meant to contrast ordinary
with extra-ordinary. The liturgical use of "ordinary" comes from
"ordinal" or "expressing order or succession." Ordinary Time is
the season of "counted Sundays."

We are counting our way through the church year as faithful
Christians gathering on the Lord's Day to hear the Lord's voice
in the scriptures and to offer God praise and thanksgiving
through the prayer of all prayers, the Eucharist. Every Sunday is
the Lord's Day and we are called to be glad and rejoice in
it! This Sunday we will hear John the Baptist’s proclamation
(John 1:29b) that we repeat three times in our Communion Rite:
“Lamb of God you take away the sins of the world.” It is also
part of the dialogue before we receive communion: "Behold, the
Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sin of the
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.” It
is the presence of the Lamb of God with us today that continues
“to say the word and my(our) soul(s) shall be healed!”

I am Joseph your brother! Fr. Joe Hannappel

Mission Statement

St. James parish is established to be a sign of the presence of the Kingdom of God, to spread the Good News of the Gospel and to minister and serve others. As Catholics we believe in Jesus' dying and rising and in our call to celebrate the Sacraments and proclaim the Gospel.
